The Countdown Begins

Yes, the holidays are in full swing and we are all feeling the busyness. And the joy, of course. And the busyness. The next few weeks are full of people and parties and presents and sugar. The kids get out of school, the in-laws come to visit.

We’re counting down to Christmas, but there’s another important countdown happening. What’s seven weeks away and determines our future?

The legislative session! With a start date of January 28, it will be here before we know it! It’s time to think about how you’ll engage in the session this year.

Do you know who your legislators are? Do they know you? Do you know how to watch live debates during the session? Do you know how to look up bills and committees so you can be at the capitol for a session?

Our legislators are busy gearing up, and now is the time for us to do the same. Consider a few practical ideas that you can put on your calendar now.

  • Look up upcoming legislation that you are interested in following.

  • Make a quick phone call or send an email about an issue that’s important to you.

  • Schedule a meeting with a legislator between Christmas and New Year’s (REALLY! If you’re serious about an issue, they are accessible and willing to meet!)

And in case you missed these articles, enjoy some highlights from the Bee last week:
